Martin Luther King, Jr. Activity
What is your favorite Martin Luther King, Jr. speech or your favorite book or movie about him?
Monday, January 18th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, an official day of service and commemoration honoring the civil rights leader's life and legacy. Our nation celebrates the achievements of Martin Luther King Jr. who was an influential American civil rights leader most well-known for his campaigns to end racial segregation on public transportation and advance racial equality in the United States.
Our school motto and one of the things we value at Imagodei Academy is “Redeeming Education through a Biblical Worldview”. With this discovery lesson, we want to give our students and their families an opportunity to take a closer look at history and dig a little deeper into historical accounts of Martin Luther King, Jr. We believe studying history is important because as the popular saying goes…“if we don’t learn from our past [history] we are doomed to repeat it.”
This activity is available with age-appropriate material for all Imagodei Academy students to participate in with their families to help generate discussion and learning.
Students will learn from and share about their favorite or newly favorite speech by Martin Luther King, Jr., or book or movie about him. If you don’t have a favorite one in particular, you can pick any speech, book or movie about Martin Luther King, Jr. to complete the activity.
Here are the objectives of the activity:
Provide a summary of the book, speech or movie
Talk about the pros of the book, speech or movie
Talk about the cons of the book, speech or movie
Share why you believe Martin Luther King, Jr. is a hero?
Apply any biblical principles to Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and achievements
